The iPlayer service via Sony products seems to been up and down all week. A few of us are finding the Sony unit tries to access the regular iPlater website rather than the 'big screen' version. This causes the box to crash with the message 'there is not enough memory'. My communications with Sony put the blame firmly at the BBC end but they do say they are working on it.
As you know Mike,we also had problems with Bravia television's last weekend,I think it was,for about three days. The iPlayer is working now on my Bravia television, and this has been the case, for most of this week, with no further problems, that I know of.
Just looking at my own post,on this forum, the player started working again on my tv on Monday, and have noticed no problems since.Sony Bravia TV: How to Factory Reset Back to Original Default Settings
After a long call with Sony tech support it seems the issue lies with internet protocols. The iPlayer site thinks I'm accessing the site from a PC and not a Blu-ray player with internet access. The bigger iPlayer internet front end tries to load and subsequently crashes the Blu-ray player. I have been using Vigin Media cable broadband for access. As an experiment I switched to my old supplier AOL still on contract. Using this connection iPlayer loads with the correct front end. It looks like only other Sony users with cable broadband might have the same issue.
What's the betting that Virgin have done this to 'encourage' you to buy their TV services and use their variant of iPlayer via a V box?
Ah - but Virgin is one of the parties along with Sky that is taking action via Ofcom to disrupt and delay the launch of YouView. I really wouldn't be surprised if this was a deliberate action by Virgin as they have recognised the threat free IPTV is to their business model. If Virgin customers can get IPTV services for free via their broadband connection, there is less incentive for them to pay for a cable TV package.
So this redirection could just be an early indication of how Virgin will deal with YouView if it succeeds in launching next year. Sign In or Register to comment.Sony is launching four BZ40H series displays that are optimal for video conferencing and as digital signage.

I chose this model because the description clearly stated that it had a web browser Opera. I have used the Opera browser on my PC and found it to work well, especially for video content so presumed that the TV experience would be comparable. To start with everything seemed to work as expected but just lately I am becoming increasingly frustrated by the 'Computer says No' type of responses. For instance on one website that I use extensively, the TV says "The security of this page cannot be established.
Are you sure you want to load? Indeed it keeps asking the same question until I have confirmed three times over and then it shifts into a Memory Limitation error. I have checked out the website on my PC using the same Opera browser with no problems whatsoever. I have also put the URL through Norton's safe site checker and it comes through also with no issues whatsoever so why won't Sony Bravia let it load?
The Memory Limitation error seems to be a near standard response these days. How is it that a company that can squeeze 2Gb of RAM into a smart phone just 8.

Then there is the YouTube app - or apps. The basic black border logo app works fairly well. Videos play without buffering I have fibre optic broadband and you have space for 8 frequently used sites without logging in to YouTube.
However, it appears that YouTube will not be supporting this app from Aprilso that means using the inferior alternative 'YouTube for TV' app. This seems extremely unstable and suffers frequent crashes. When it does work you have to be very nimble to jump to your search result as otherwise it throws up the ubiquitous Memory Limitation error. It does not happen immidiatly. If you play the video and keep watching for minutes, all of sudden video will be stopped and you will get this page.

This is normal. The web-browser is not a substitute to a computer. It will be the same for graphic intensive web-pages too. Unfortunately this cannot be fixed, due to the fact that you are trying to do something that the TV was not designed for.
Thanks for your reply, seems a reasonable answer. I was wondering how it is buffering Netflix and Youtube if it does not have enough memory to buffer through browser. But alternatively, I will connect TV with Laptop to play videos using browser.

You must remember though, that this is a TV and not a computer. View solution in original post. Actually, all electronic devices - flat panels included - are mini-computers in a very basic sense and degree. As such, there are work arounds sometimes that can be "situated" with enough effort.
It depends on architecture and construction. Sometimes, the former can make it extremely difficult, but the latter can make it absolutely impossible. With that, it had me wondering if there was a way to insert code into the tv's architecture to have it use a thumb drive placed in the USB port as a "green room", or preload cache.
